I work in international freight for a mega corp, a few years back I was offered a position on days (I’m currently 3rd shift) with the promise of better hours, lower quotas, andquicker chance at promotion.

Day shift - spending all day on the phone getting yelled at by idiots who used a crayon and a napkin to hand write a bill of lading, and now are furious that I won’t break multiple federal and international laws to get their fucking crate of plastic trinkets across the border.

Night shift - processing international shipping documents while listening to podcasts and audiobooks. 1 or 2 drivers call per night with issues that require 1 maybe 2 phone calls to resolve, generally resolved in less than 30 minutes and almost always I only speak with other knowledgeable professionals in the industry.

Now that the promotion is just around the corner, the extra two years I spent on nights was worth my sanity.
