At my first IT job, we had to attend a week or two of training before actually doing the job. I was eighteen at the time and didn’t know nothin’ about nothin’ … Including that benadryl makes you sleepy.

Sometime in the first few days of training, I was having some pretty bad allergies and a roommate suggested benadryl. I picked some up on the drive to work and took the recommended dose immediately, then headed into the training, which was nothing but lecturing for a full eight hours on the second floor of a building with a broken AC. Also in the small room were about 20-25 people and a 2005-era projector in the middle of the room.

I doubt I learned anything other than the side effects of benadryl that day. I’m fortunate that I did manage to stay conscious and that the drowsiness had probably worn off before my ninety minute drive home.

      Haven’t taken any since.
