I live in northern Ontario and I have an older 2010 F150 that I service myself and keep running. I got it used for $5,000 four years ago. It’s a great truck and I use it for all my work hauling and moving stuff and going on gravel roads, sand and dirt. Since I take care of it, it’s going to last a long time.
I have neighbors and friends near me who also enjoy having trucks … but theirs are brand new monster trucks with lift kits and tons of extras … and they never want to dirty them … no garbage runs, no hauling lumber, no dirt roads, no bush roads (god forbid that bushes could scratch the paint) … if they ever haul anything it has to be a brand appliance in a cardboard box from the store. The best part is, they are pieces of junk with metal that rusts prematurely and engines and transmissions that are almost programmed to fail. I had one friend who bought a brand new 2018 GM truck and in the second year, his transmission blew up … a big beautiful truck with brand new parts and the transmission blew up!
Those big trucks are show pieces to flaunt wealth or show the appearance of wealth because for every rich guy that can afford one outright, there are ten guys in debt to pay them for the next 20 years.
