I don’t use it. But sometimes you may find a need to read or search for something that is only on there.
this, 100% this. be afraid.
exactly. I have kids. I got it to keep them safe. had it up till today, so for years and years. pisses me off to no end. I will find a FOSS self hosted solution. There has to be one. It may not be friendly, but it has to exist, lol.
Yeah, that was going to be the second part of the question. Was it an all in one solution. There does seem to be a server side ulogger component but it may only be for viewing the data. Ill have to dig into the whole thing more to see what kind of FOSS self-hosted solution makes sense.
looking at uLogger now, that looks pretty interesting. Having used it, any reason why I shouldnt give this a go?
I think an important distinction here is that in that statement its saying when you are using services from within the platform. the class action lawsuit is saying they were selling the data prior to this, without notification, without consent, and beyond this scope. Hence why they are in court.
You are right, I mean, everything thats free isnt free. I am just radicalized now by how awful everything is and how invasive everything is and so I see it and I share it.
Figured since this is an app that ppl use for children and what not that this community would want to know.
Ok, got another one for ya based on some comments below. You have all the usual addons to block ads and such, but you create a sock-puppet identify, and use AI to “click” ads in the background (stolen from a comment) that align with that identity. You dont see the ads, but the traffic pattern supports the identity you are wearing.
So rather than random, its aligned with a fake identity.
Pretty interesting. It is a rabbit hole, you say well I dont trust this so I secure it here, and then you have to trust the next layer down. Eventually you have to have some level of trust. But I think its pretty cool none the less.
This is like chaff, and I think it would work. But you would have to deal with the fact that whatever patterns it was showing you were doing “you would be doing”.
I think there are other ways that AI can be used for privacy.
For example, did you know that you can be identified by how you type/speak online? what if you filtered everything you said through an LLM first, normalizing it. Takes away a fingerprinting option. Could use a pretty small local LLM model that could run on a modest local desktop…
thoughts on ampwall? just heard about it
only issue is quality, but there are alternatives. streaming wise Tidal is way higher quality that spotify or yt, and there are various github pkgs out there…
I have heard that Ukraine is a crazy fascist state. This seems to support that.
I will also say that what I have listed is for my known digital foot print. If you catch my drift.
You are right. It’s the choice I’ve made. I’m decided that I would rather have the lock down because I no longer think that being anonymous means anything. It’s my opinion that due to the rise and ease of apply AI/ML and computational access we are all data points. So it’s no longer a matter of blending in.
TLDR, I weighed the two and chose this
They aren’t open. But yes. It would be if they were. The are open within my VPN. :)
Can you explain that?
FWIW, traccar seems to be a great alternative. Set it up today. Docker and app on the phone with tailscale. Works well. Can share docker compose file if there is interest.
