    You get a lawyer if you want someone prosecuted. Cops don’t do anything, will usually just shrug, or even make it worse.

    They’re only good for paperwork. If they feel like doing that.

      Yes, and that essentially means that if you’re too poor to afford a lawyer, you essentially have no rights, since the state won’t protect them.

      You get a lawyer if you want to prosecute a civil case to sue someone for damages, the crown prosecutes criminal cases. Arguably dangerous driving, property damage, potentially grevious bodily harm and fleeing the scene of a crime are all criminal acts. Also a civil case is easier to get over the line if the accused has already been convicted on a criminal charge.
