Sweet unmerciful fuck. This has blown up way beyond what it should have. A few things to shut up the pearl clutches:

  1. Generally speaking people don’t have problems with business OWNERS. Sure you’re technically a CEO but that’s like asking why a tomato isn’t in a fruit salad.

  2. No one is really operating under the MO of offing all CEOs everywhere just because they took the job.

  3. You’re absolutely right, not all CEOs are bad. Some still look at their employees and see valued assets that they invest in and grow. And they’ll never make the news.

  4. If you oversaw your company creating an algorithm that literally put weighted values to people’s lives and then denied them coverage that they were confirmed to be eligible for through the programs that they pay you money for while also when being pointed out that this algorithm inaccurately denies people their coverage and has caused actual documented deaths…then if you’re going to play at that table with people’s lives don’t look shocked when it’s your turn to ante up.

I literally just figured lemmy out to get away from that Nazi sympathizing, boot licking shithole it got turned into once redditors became products for advertisers.

Fuck Reddit, Nazi lives don’t matter, the world would be a demonstrably better place if we rounded up the billionaires, relieved them of their wealth, and redistributed it through society.

Someone really should make a film about hunting down the 1%. “Slaughter at The Wal-a-Go House”, where Wiff Mezos, Alan Masque, Ronald Krump, and others each suffer appropriate ends.

You won’t do shit. Memes are fun to post and it’s fun to pretend that you’re dangerous, or brave or some kind of revolutionary but you personally won’t do anything other than post memes online.

For all the bolsterous talk on the internet, there hasn’t really been any serious action except maybe people buying fewer Teslas and even that’s mostly outside of the US. No other Luigis, no riots, nothing in the real world. Just barking at other dogs online safely behind a fence.

You’re not wrong, but you’re ignoring the reasons why. This moment was hand crafted by the ones in power - literally everything you suggested would put your average American, who is living paycheck to paycheck, out on the street.

Or cancel their direly needed health insurance. Or get their work transportation repo’d. Or etc or etc or etc.

You honestly expect people to blindly throw their lives away? You want real action, start organizing it yourself, so these people who want to fight but can’t have a network to rely on.

Why do they all layoff workers who actually do the thing? Why do they always leave in layers of management? What’s up with return to office, why is zoom of all companies doing it?

It’s consulting companies like McKinsey. They go to the board and say “you need a strong CEO to boost stock price”. Then they go investment groups and say “look at this strong CEO, you should invest in this company”

The worst part is what McKinsey thinks makes for a “strong” CEO means they’re specialized at doing something, usually something evil

The fediverse is fundamentally more resistant to that type of shit tho, cuz mods and even instance owners can’t piss off too many users without the community migrating elsewhere. The split in the memes community between .ml and .world is a perfect example

Someone want to explain why I should be murdered for running my own construction business?

EDIT: Well, judging by the hostility, it seems this does indeed apply even to small business owners - but I’m still waiting to hear an actual reason why.

Is your small construction business even publicly traded, or do you not understand what a CEO is?

Just because you like to put “CEO” on your LinkedIn doesn’t actually make you one being talked about. It’s talking about CEOs of large companies who are responsible for destroying countless lives.

When you start wielding wealth and resources as a weapon against humanity, then you are the problem. In a just society, these people would simply not exist, or at least, we’d have the means to quickly remove them from power if they somehow found a means to abuse society. However, we do not live in a just society, or one where justice is actually a guiding principle. We live in a capitalist society that enforces its will through violence, and only truly responds to violence. There is a very, very good reason that Luigi struck such a chord with so many people.

Then maybe the people spreading this meme should be a bit more specific with their messaging, because all I’m hearing is “CEO bad” - and yeah, I feel somewhat threatened by that, since technically it applies to me too, even though I don’t really consider myself one in practice.

If I got murdered and the headline read “CEO killed,” I can easily imagine the cheering in places like Lemmy, where nuance often seems to go out the window.

What’s the nuance I’m supposedly missing here? I’ve criticized the “ACAB” slogan before and asked people directly if they truly mean every single cop without exception - and more than once, the answer has been yes. So excuse me if I’m not feeling especially charitable in how I interpret a meme that’s already completely unreasonable to begin with, no matter how you read it.

And I told you. I showed you replies where people said you are not the problem, then you diverted to that pedantic BS. My “hostility” is because you are an obvious troll. When people respond to your comment you pivot somewhere else. But since it needs to be spelled out for you.

The public discourse for a while, seriously like 8 months now you are under a rock, has been an opposition to large corporations that are monopolies in their industries. They leave consumers with no options and force decisions on people ultimately harming them for greed, whether it be draining their paychecks or actually killing them. People believe, and this is a hot take, murder is bad. But there are no consequences for their actions. You can’t go somewhere else. They own everything. You can’t arrest them. They spend their money on buying the law aka lobbying. So people have resorted to the eye for an eye mentality. These memes are a play on that.

Now the meme itself is talking about a target season. And since you like everything to be explicit so much. Acccctuaallllly there is no mention of hurting anyone in this meme. A target could also be “egging their house, launching a protest on their front lawn”. Am I stupid enough to think that? Nah. But you’re the one who hates assuming things.
